Franchise motor dealer Dales Cornwall supports local Down’s Syndrome charity
12 March 2020 – Cornwall: Dales Cornwall, one of the West Country’s leading new and used car retailers, confirms the loan of a Vauxhall Grandland SUV to the Cornwall Down’s Syndrome Support Group (CDSSG), which is organising a 125 mile fundraising walk that will take place later this month.
The nine-day trek is being managed by CDSSG coordinators Bonnie Davis and Angie Matthews, whose daughters Lowenna and Kate both have Down’s Syndrome, and will involve parents from the support group walking along the Cornish Celtic Way. They will cover between 10 and 16 miles a day, with family and friends joining them at various intervals to provide support and encouragement.
Commenting on his decision to support the event in this way, Dales Cornwall Marketing Manager Bobby Vanderplank said:
“After speaking to a customer who kindly informed us of Bonnie and Angie’s amazing work for CDSSG, we were inspired to help these intrepid parents in any way we could. We realised that they would need practical help, to ensure that the day-to-day errands and logistics of the event could run as smoothly as possible. So we decided to offer them the use of a Vauxhall Grandland SUV for the duration of the walk. We hope it goes some small way to making their endeavour easier - enabling them to raise even more much-needed funds for the charity.”
The walk will start on 12th March at St German’s, going through to Polruan, then inland to Padstow, down to Leland, and finally across to St Michael’s Mount – finishing on 20th March, the day before World Down Syndrome Day.
Bonnie Davis explains why she values CDSSG so much, and how it has helped her family:
"I am doing this walk to raise money for a charity I work for, rely on and love. The Cornwall Down's Syndrome Support Group has been a great help over the last 11 years, and I have made some amazing friends whom I get advice from, cry, and laugh with. Lowenna loves to dance and go on days out with CDSSG - and thanks to them, she has also accessed speech and language sessions, as well as Numicon lessons.
Training for the walk has been hard going, but we are trying to prepare ourselves for walking between 10 and 16 miles a day for nine days. We have been training for the last eight months through some pretty extreme weather, and although we have experienced rain, sleet, high winds, thunder and lightning, we are yet to face snow…”
