Electric Cars in Cornwall

As electric cars become more and more popular, there are a lot of questions that might need answering when the time comes to consider your next car.

It’s important to include electric cars when considering your next car as there are now more and more electric cars entering the market than ever before.

Whether you are looking for an SUV style vehicle or a small city car, there are plenty of electric or hybrid options to consider.

Some of the common questions around Electric and Hybrid cars are around the functionality and what it’s like to live with.

What is an Electric car?

An Electric car is defined as any electrified vehicle, which covers Electric vehicles, Plug in Hybrids and Hybrid vehicles. To understand the difference allows you to make an informed decision when it comes to upgrading to an Electric car.

Pure Electric and Plug in Hybrid cars can often be associated with range anxiety as there is no petrol reserve to rely on.

What is a Hybrid car?

A Hybrid car is made up of a conventional engine (usually petrol), an electric motor and a battery, which all work together to power the vehicle.

Hybrid cars will best suit those who do short, local journeys as you will never need to use the petrol reserve and you will benefit from no, or low emissions.

A Hybrid vehicle does give you the flexibility to travel longer distances without the range anxiety associated with pure Electric vehicles, as the petrol reserve can be used once the car travels above the range of the Hybrid technology and the battery re-charges itself using re-generative power.

How to Hybrid vehicles work?

Hybrid vehicles work by utilising a series of technologies or components. Firstly, the battery re-charges itself using regenerative power (from braking) so there is no need to plug the vehicle in to a charging point, reducing range anxiety. There are plug in Hybrid options available if you don’t want to rely purely on a conventional petrol engine and want the option to plug in for medium length journeys up to around 50 miles.

How long does it take to charge an Electric car?

Electric cars can be charged in a number of ways, from conventional home charging ports to public power ports (which offer faster charging). A home charging port designed for electric vehicles is the best options, provider faster charging that a conventional 3 pin plug, but without the hassle of finding a public port.

What range can you get from an Electric car

The range will depend entirely on the outside conditions (weather, road surface) as well as the way in which the car is driven (erratically or stopping and starting regularly). Much like with a conventional engine, petrol or diesel is used up quicker if the car isn’t driven well or if it is cold outside for example. The power needed by the engine is greater in these instances so will use more battery power, quicker, therefore the range will be less during these conditions.

If the car is driven to optimum conditions and the outside conditions are good, you can get up to 300 miles on a single charge.

What Electric vehicles are available at Dales Cornwall?

We offer a range of electric vehicles to suit your requirements.
