The Suzuki Across might just be the best car of the year. It’s an all-new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with a 46 mile electric range in EV mode and a 2.5 petrol engine for long distances. It’s unique in that it has a ‘Battery Charger’ drive mode, which uses the petrol engine to charge the battery, so you don’t have to plug in to recharge. The result is a PHEV that’s able to sustain itself, so it doesn’t inconvenience you.

Add to that a dependable four-wheel drive system and a substantial 180bhp and 270Nm of torque, and you have an SUV fit for a king (or queen).

Standard kit includes an electric tailgate, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, a 9” touchscreen and a 7” digital driver’s display. EV mode

In EV mode, the Across drives on electric power alone, using its 18.1kWh lithium-ion battery pack for power. It has a range of up to 46 miles on a charge, so if your commute is less than this, you might not use any petrol at all.

Battery Charger mode

Battery Charger mode is a Suzuki innovation that uses the large-capacity 2.5-litre petrol engine to power the lithium-ion battery pack. It enables you to add range to the battery without plugging into a wall.

Driver information

The Across has a 9” touchscreen and a 7” digital driver’s display. The driver’s display shows your electric range and charge times, while the touchscreen is used for infotainment or to double up the driving information.

Connectivity

The Across keeps you connected with wireless charging, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto and Bluetooth. The touchscreen is easy to use but you can also run apps and navigation on the display with smartphone mirroring.

Driving aids

The Across comes equipped with a suite of driving aids, including all-round parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane tracing assist and emergency city braking.

Four-wheel drive
