This statement is made pursuant to Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our Group slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ended 2020.
Structure, business and supply chains
DCM Cornwall is a private, family owned Cornish company. Trading as Dales Central Motors Ltd and Dales Cornwall Ltd the group operates from Scorrier and Summercourt representing 5 Motor manufacturers offering vehicle sales and aftersales. During 2020 we had a company turnover of £53 million and employed 126 staff.
Policies in relation to slavery and human trafficking
As a family owned and family run business, we aim to treat our staff, customers and suppliers fairly, honestly and with respect. We are therefore committed to prevent acts of modern slavery or human trafficking from occurring within our business. We expect the same from those who we buy goods or services from.
Due Diligence and Risk
In 2020 88% of our overall cost (including cost of sales) of £52 Million were from the purchasing of new or used vehicles or motor vehicle parts from our franchise partners. We rely on these partners to produce their products according to their published anti-slavery and trafficking measures.
In 2020 employment costs represented 8.35% of our overall costs (including cost of sales) and 71.5% of our operating expenses. Our recruitment process ensures eligibility to work in the UK. Our employee wage/bonus structure honours the national minimum wage and we always aim to pay the living wage.
Our other expenses, which represented 3.65% of our overall cost (including cost of sales) and 28.5% of our operating expenses, arise from our trading relationship with hundreds of different suppliers. It is not possible to establish with absolute certainty the risk of modern slavery or human trafficking for each one. We will ask for more information where we feel the situation or risk warrants this.
Staff Training
Franchise Training is now available online and includes reference to modern slavery and human trafficking. Our franchise partners audit our training as part of their standards assessment. This ensures that relevant training is completed and that progress is being made.
